Mediation is a means to settle a dispute an individual may be experiencing that causes them emotional stress.  A mediator's goal is to promote settlement and attempt to resolve matters.   

It is not  the role of the mediator to act as a judge and to tell people what to do. It is the attempt of the mediator to assist parties to work out their own issues.
